RAS Production Facility

The use of land-based RECIRCULATING AQUACULTURE SYSTEMS (RAS) technology is well proven with many existing facilities in the U.S. and around the world producing a wide variety of fresh water and marine species. In this aquaculture method, tanks of several sizes are stocked with disease-free juveniles. To date, and for the foreseeable future, Acadia Harvest Inc.® has been able to largely utilize juveniles from a brood stock maintained by our partner, the University of Maine Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research (CCAR). Fish for production are maintained at healthy densities with a near-constant, year round temperature, fed at optimum intervals with high quality feed and progressively moved to larger tanks as they grow. The tank system’s seawater is constantly recirculated and 5 - 10% of the total volume replaced daily via a single-purpose intake/discharge pipeline. An active health monitoring system and biosecurity measures help ensure the well-being of the fish, and their acceptance within the food industry.
